Stanford University, California, USA
Awards
Best Paper
The AID'96 best paper award went to Andy Dong and Alice Agogino,
University of California at Berkeley, for their
paper Text Analysis for Constructing Design Representations.
The Best Paper Committee commented:
We think that the winning paper identifies an important and general
problem in AI in Design. It presents a novel solution to this general
problem, together with results which clearly demonstrate its
feasibility and the viablility of its further significant development
and application. It is a well organised and a well written paper and
stands as an excellent example in its presentation of the method
adopted in the work reported and in its treatment of related work.
Best Presentation
The AID'96 best presentation award went to Linda Schmidt,
University of Maryland, for the presentation of her paper Grammars
for Machine
Design, co-authored with Jonathan Cagan, Carnegie Mellon
University. The Best Presentation Committee agreed that:
Linda Schmidt's presentation was clear and engaging, told a good
`story', and had very clear, readable slides. In addition the content
was very good. The speaker had a strong presence that captured and
held the audience's attention. Questions were handled confidently.
