Murat Gul is an architect, architectural and urban historian who has worked in Turkey and Australia. He holds BArch and MHerCon degrees from Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul and PhD in Architecture from the University of Sydney.
His research interests include Turkish and Islamic architectural and urban history, heritage conservation, new design in old settings, urban design and regeneration of former port areas and industrial sites. His PhD thesis titled Transformation and modernisation of the Ottoman capital: The redevelopment of Istanbul in the 1950s was supported by Australian Postgraduate Awards.
Murat has extensive experience in planning and heritage conservation practice working for the New South Wales Government in the fields of heritage conservation and statutory planning control.
